Some thoughts on the subjects of video games

I am an avid fan of video games. I play a lot of video games. I enjoy a lot of video games. Being such a diverse medium, many such fans have trouble picking favorites. Today, however, for no reason of real import, I decided to try and compile a personal top ten, and as I did so, I realized that it was more or less definitive. There's lots of games that I love, but these? Each and every one of them, I can see myself coming back to over and over.

So, not that anyone really cares, but here it is. GG Crono's Top Ten is as follows:

1. Chrono Trigger
2. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
3. Radiant Historia
4. Mega Man X
5. Super Metroid
6. Zelda: Link to the Past
7. Persona 3 and 4 (yes they both get one entry, shut up)
8. The Mother/EarthBound series (see above, re: shut up)
9. Cave Story
10. Planescape: Torment

And that's all she wrote. (She, in this instance, being me.)

A Christmas Miracle (of sorts)

My family is weird sometimes. And I love them for it.

So my family's old fake Christmas tree broke this year. The obvious solution would be to get a new one.

We've never been the sort for obvious solutions. So what did we do?

We decorated my father's cactus collection.

See the results here!

They've since wrapped some festive tissue paper around the pots, too. Looks much nicer.

Merry Cactmas, everybody!

A winner is me!

For the second time, I have participated in Nanowrimo.

And for the second time, I completed it. Fifty thousand words. Thirty days. (Well, twenty-nine days, but who's counting?)

I really did not think I would be able to push through it this time, moreso than last year. Last year, I had a framework for the story in my mind. It was based off ideas I had in my head for years. This was based off of a more recent idea, and I had no plot in mind for it whatsoever, only a premise. But look at me, I did it.

Will I be able to do it again next year? We'll see. Will I make the attempt? Damn right.

Once again, I have to give a big shout out the love of my life, museinme8, for pushing me through this and for never letting me quit. Once again, I couldn't have done it without you! <3

I am bespectacled!

Two LJ posts from me in the same year? Madness!

Anyway. I got my new glasses. I ended up not getting new lenses put into my dad's old frames.

The field of view is slightly different than in my old ones. So it'll take a little getting used to. But I like them. They're different. I don't do different things enough.

Back in October, a friend of mine more or less strong-armed me into participating in Nanowrimo. I had never done it before. With great reluctance, I accepted, not expecting to achieve very much.

Last night, a little after midnight, I passed the fifty thousand word mark.

What's that weird burning sensation I'm feeling in my chest? ...oh, wait, that's pride. So that's what that feels like.

I'd like to give a big thank you to museinme8 for forcing me to encouraging me to do this, and for keeping me going along the way. I could not have done this without her. You rock!

Books books books

Yes, I'm making a livejournal post. It's only been, what, most of a year? Well, I have things I wanna say, so I'm gonna say them.

dark_puck turned me onto Tamora Pierce not long ago. Around that time, I read a good amount of the Tortall Universe books, and enjoyed them. More recently, I've been tearing into Circle of Magic, which I'm finding I like even better.

A couple weeks ago, I acquired the first book of that series via Paperbackswap.com (which I have been using religiously since I posted about it in November '08, seen below), and not long after I finished that, went about grabbing the rest of the quartet via the same service. Once I finished THAT, I was elated to discover that my library had all of the rest of them. I promptly checked the rest out all at once. Glee. I just finished the second quartet, and am now digging into The Will of the Empress. Delicious delicious bookage.

To anyone who hasn't read Tamora Pierce's stuff before, I highly recommend it. She writes complex characters in a well-developed world who take part in highly compelling stories.

...so yeah, I'm gonna need more books soon. Anyone reading this read anything good recently?

I hear angels singing...

They're saying: "Boooooks~"

The purpose of this entry is to inform my fellow bibliophiles of the following site:

I once was lost, but now am found.
