Books books books
Yes, I'm making a livejournal post. It's only been, what, most of a year? Well, I have things I wanna say, so I'm gonna say them. dark_puck turned me onto Tamora Pierce not long ago. Around that time, I read a good amount of the Tortall Universe books, and enjoyed them. More recently, I've been tearing into Circle of Magic, which I'm finding I like even better. A couple weeks ago, I acquired the first book of that series via Paperbackswap.com (which I have been using religiously since I posted about it in November '08, seen below), and not long after I finished that, went about grabbing the rest of the quartet via the same service. Once I finished THAT, I was elated to discover that my library had all of the rest of them. I promptly checked the rest out all at once. Glee. I just finished the second quartet, and am now digging into The Will of the Empress. Delicious delicious bookage. To anyone who hasn't read Tamora Pierce's stuff before, I highly recommend it. She writes complex characters in a well-developed world who take part in highly compelling stories. ...so yeah, I'm gonna need more books soon. Anyone reading this read anything good recently? The greatest Christmas gift ever.
I have just received the most incredible present it is possible to receive. Are you ready for this? Wind-up sushi. http://i43.tinypic.com/2e4anpu.jpgThis is the sum of all our existence. This world was made to evolve a race that would eventually invent wind-up sushi. There is nothing in life but wind-up sushi. I hear angels singing...
They're saying: "Boooooks~" The purpose of this entry is to inform my fellow bibliophiles of the following site: http://www.paperbackswap.comI once was lost, but now am found. If anyone reading this signs up, please put me down as a referrer, as either "ggcrono" or "ggcrono4(at)gmail(dot)com". I get points for it. A Winner Is Me
I was exhausted on Monday and busy yesterday, so you get some con details today. NYCC was, as the cool kids are saying these days, teh awexome. I saw lots of cosplayers, hung with some cool people, bought a set of five-dollar nunchucks, aaaand I met Jim Butcher. RAWK. I got some stuff signed and it was an amazing experience. Really, he's just another nerd like any of us. He's just a nerd with money. Current Mood: Awexome | | Friday, April 18th, 2008 | | 11:39 am |
I'm Off To See The Wizard
And by "the wizard" I mean "New York Comic Con". This will be my first time going to a big con, and it's very likely that I'm going to meet my favorite author, Jim Butcher. Meep. Wish me luck. Two posts in as many days? Madness!
This is SPA- *discount brick'd* ...right, sorry. Anyway. A friend of mine (who does not have an LJ) is contributing to a game-review blog, which as a friend, I feel obligated to pimp. http://augamers.blogspot.comThis guy knows his stuff well enough. For The Win!
I've been messing with a cute little game known as For The Win lately. It's simple; Push button, receive bacon figurines. Said figurines are pop culture parodies in a variety of delightful flavors. There's not much to it, but it's strangely endearing. And if you sign up via the link I provided, I'll get some extra goodies, which would be nice. Give it a try. Things On My Desktop
Well, the top of my bureau, actually, since my actual desk is clear except for my mug of pens. But anyway. http://img207.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscf1948mw7.jpgFrom left to right: Treasure chest. Contains index cards, on which are cards me and my friends used to play 1000 Blank White Cards. Lots of fun. Try it. Toy helicopter with no rotors. Needs no further explanation. Pewter wizard. Birthday present from years and years ago. Zidane figurine on top of Christmas-themed box. A present from dark_puck. The box is kept out all year because I like the box. Inside is some coins, some ten-sided dice, a screw and a scrabble tile. Action figure of Neo from the Matrix. Again, self-explanatory. Demonic ducky. Present from a friend. Useful as a distraction. Ramune bottle, Bawls bottle, and bottle of "Freaky Dog" soda. Just interesting bottles. Tube of Rowntree's Berry Pastiles. Present from a friend of mine who went to London. Really good. Would really like to get hands on more. Generic warrior woman figurine. Got at a ren faire. Big-headed Spider-Man. Found in a cereal box. Can of Duff beer that contains a pack of Simpsons playing cards. I used a sharpie to turn it into a can of Düff. From Sweden. Egg timer. An early Christmas present from my mother. I have a nasty tendency to forget things that I, say, put in the oven. Handy! Finally, my lava lamp, currently switched off. Purple with pink blobs. Very trippy. I do hope this has been informative. Have a nice day. Current Mood: MehCurrent Music: Portal - Still Alive | | Thursday, November 1st, 2007 | | 5:18 pm |

NERD!!!!! | What Be Your Nerd Type? Your Result: Literature Nerd Does sitting by a nice cozy fire, with a cup of hot tea/chocolate, and a book you can read for hours even when your eyes grow red and dry and you look sort of scary sitting there with your insomniac appearance? Then you fit this category perfectly! You love the power of the written word and it's eloquence; and you may like to read/write poetry or novels. You contribute to the smart people of today's society, however you can probably be overly-critical of works.

Fun Day! =D
I went to a renaissance faire. My first. 'Twas fun. Lots and lots of fun. There were people eating fire. And pointy things. And wenches. Lots and lots of wenches. A very fun day indeed. ^_^ EDIT: Now that I'm not ass-tired, I'll provide a few more details. When we arrived, there was a joust about to go down. Many insults were hurled. One of the knights kicked the other in the stones. The crowds called for death. Huzzah. There were pointy-shinies of all sorts for sale. Not just swords, but maces, flails, axes, even chainmail suits. There were also magnificently-made staves, horns, fancy garments, even a shop selling misclanious *ahem* leather goods. >_> The highlight of the whole thing would have to be the show that went on shortly before we buggered off. A big performance where they did various things with fire. Eating it, dancing with it, lighting various extremeties on it, juggling flaming sticks, and of course, my favorate, a swordfight with flaming swords. Yee, fire! And did I mention the wenches? Song Meme II: Electric Boogaloo
Yeah, I've done this before, and I'm doing it again. It's fun! If you don't like it, don't play! ...no, wait, come back, I didn't mean it! *ahem* So anyway. Yeah. If I got one, that came up last time I played this, I'm going to skip it. TEH ROOLZ0RZ: Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random. Hey, lookie here, I have an LJ
I just got back from a weekend in New York City with the parents. Was pretty cool. Got to hook up with some friends, finally got to see Nintendo World (and got a bitchin' T-shirt there), and good times were had by all. Huzzah. I'd say more, but there's not much to be said, really. I'm just glad to be home and immoble at the moment. Also, expect various memes soon if I don't find something to retain my attention. *bookgasm*
I just finished Proven Guilty, Book 8 of The Dresden Files. Holy CRAP. That...was goooood. *lights a cigarette* It was worth every minute of the wait. I want to worship the ground that Jim Butcher walks on. That was just phenominal. Now to wait for Book 9. ^_^ Current Mood: Bookgasmic |
